Goodbye to the brave businessman

The abrupt death of Ambareesh Murty, the co-founder and CEO of Pepperfry, shocked those who knew him. Ambareesh, a motorcycle enthusiast, recently released a video named "Motorcycle Diaries" on his Instagram account while on his way to Leh.And just yesterday, he published a video named "Motorcycle Diaries" on his Instagram account.where he reportedly prophesied about "God not accepting him as an angel." Even more sinisterly, he had written in his article from six days prior that "Life is a limited company with unlimited dreams."

Together with Ashish Shah, the affable businessman created Pepperfy in 2012. This year, the two were supposed to celebrate the company's 12-year anniversary, but his life was ruthlessly taken. Here is a look back at Ambareesh's impressive career as a serial entrepreneur who never shied away from taking calculated risks in order to grow his companies.

The IIM Calcutta alumni began working at Cadbury in 1996 as a management trainee and remained there through 2001. Later, he worked with Levi Strauss and ICICI Prudential AMC and subsequently Levi Strauss.

Ambareesh saw his fair share of disappointments early in his business career, despite Pepperfry's stratospheric rise. From 2003 to 2005, he operated the unsuccessful business training enterprise Origin Resource. Then he returned to the corporate world, taking a job as a marketing manager at Britannia. In the future, he worked for eBay as the country manager for Malaysia, the Philippines, and India. While doing research on the e-commerce boom, he met Ashish Shah, who would later grow to be a close friend and the co-founder of Pepperfry.

Under the leadership of Shah and Ambareesh, Pepperfry expanded to include three warehouses, more than 60 experiential studios scattered over 20 cities, and delivery to 500 locations. According to company data provider Crunchbase, Pepperfry has invested $245.3 million (or roughly 1,770 crores) since its start. Around the time of the pandemic, when every firm was struggling and reinventing itself, Pepperfry underwent a significant change and turned into an online marketplace. Today, Pepperfry is regarded as a pioneer and a leader in the online furniture retail industry.

The CMO PITCH

Ambareesh recently discussed the inspiration behind Pepperfry during the Pitch CMO Summit where he was a speaker. He said, "If somebody hangs around long in a place...so suppose somebody's working in an organization for 10 years, typically the word that gets used for the person is 'yeh insaan to furniture ho gaya'. Therefore, the pace at which we were working prevented furniture from being considered glamorous or even particularly agile.new, in style, etc. So, Ashish, my co-founder, and I had a vision for how we would make this category incredibly attractive, and it all began with a name. 'Fabulous Furniture' was a possible moniker for us, but we declined to use it. Instead, we decided to go by the name Pepperfry, which had nothing to do with furniture. And I believe that's where it all began.

Ambareesh often jokingly called himself a "Closet Sociopath, History Buff, Solo Rider, Furniture Salesman, Poker of Bears" on his social media profile, and was an avid lover of adventure. His untimely demise has also led to an outpouring of grief from people who knew and loved him.
